Intensive Sanitation (ISP) C.D.D WAT-SAN Project, Midnapore

The lack of access to sanitation mainly affects the poor women and children, who use open defecation as their primary alternative. And, a majority of the poor are women and children. Unlike men, women have restricted mobility in many cultures, which reduces access to sanitation. They require privacy to relieve themselves. In absence of sanitation services women and children are more exposed to water-borne diseases due to their roles in water collection, clothes washing, and domestic activities. Showraberia Nivedita Seva Niketan has constructed low-cost household latrines for the APL & BPL beneficiaries in 13 Gram Panchayats of the Panskura-II block since its inception in 2004.

The programmer for the construction of latrines is implemented only in rural areas. Ramakrishna Mission Loksiksha Paris had, Narendrpur, along with Midndapur Zilla Parishad & Tamralipta Guchha Samity took the initiative to donate the materials of latrines to us. We collect those materials and do the installation and the construction part. To date, we could install only 9264 latrines in different villages of said Gram Panchayats of the Panskura-II block. The organization is working hard to eradicate open defecation, hygienic drinking water scarcity, and other sanitation problems and trying hard to provide hygienic sanitation facilities to every single household of the community and planning accordingly to ensure open defecation-free status within 5 years.

Social Housing Sukhanibas (Housing Project for the poor)

Access to secure tenure and housing has been a perennial issue plaguing the poor and vulnerable section of society. Over the last few years, RADHAKRISHNA MISSION has extended all care and assistance to meet the demanding housing projects for the poor and helpless families. We work with the rural and semi-urban poor to facilitate and provide technical support to community informal settlements (slum rehabilitation) and infrastructure projects. Our long-term vision is to support a process where organized groups of the rural poor can participate in making decisions about how their community is developed and managed.

JAGRITY UNITY (Primary & Upper Primary Model Schools)

RADHAKRISHNA MISSION administers 5 Model schools in different areas and districts of Pubra & Paschim Medinipur, Howrah, Hooghly & Bankura in West Bengal. This project provides free & standard education to boys & girls of 5-9 years for Primary Level and 9-14 years for Upper Primary level. Because of various programs undertaken on the benefits of literacy, the poor villagers are eager to send their children to schools for proper education. Good schools, if any, are very far off, and simultaneously due to acute financial instability, the parents find it difficult to send their kids to school. The seed of such Model schools was sawn a year back which envisaged a dream of imparting education to the people under BPL in the remote villages of West-

Bengal. Education that would be a judicious blend of modern progressive methods, scientific knowledge as well as art in an attempt to preserve the importance of the rich culture of Bengal. Students are provided with meals 4 times a day, 2 sets of school dress each year, and fortnightly medical checks up. The literacy program is organized from time to time under “Sarva Siksha Karmasuchi” where books are distributed among villagers and students.

Relief & Rehabilitation

Radhakrishna Mission has always taken up widespread programs on relief and rehabilitation when and where required. The institute has had a good network of volunteers who are dedicated to helping destitute and helpless people affected by natural disasters like floods, tornados, famine, drought, earthquakes, and other calamities since 2006. We assist the victims mainly by focusing on meeting immediate dire basic needs of humans like shelter, food, and medications. More than 364 families benefited from relief support, most likely clothes, food, medicines, shelters, and many more. Construction of Building and tube well repairing is also part of our core jobs after disasters and simultaneously expanding its scope of service quantitatively as well as qualitatively.
